Rick started fishing at the age of 5 and continues his life-long journey.
Trout Unlimited caught Rick’s attention in the early 80’s. He became involved as a director and eventually as president of his local chapter. Their focus was conservation, stream restoration, and youth education. He served as a chapter representative on the New Jersey State Council of TU.
He ended his tenure at the NJ State Council as chairman before retiring and moving to Hancock, NY where he lives with his wife Sharon on the East Branch of the Delaware River.
During my time on the state council, our ‘Trout in the Classroom’ TIC program grew from one school to over 110 schools throughout New Jersey. NJ’s 10 TU chapters partnered with the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife to deliver trout eggs, help set up, maintain, and repair fish tanks. We also conducted educational programs during the school year. Rick was a counselor at the summer, youth ‘Cold Water Conservation School’, which evolved from the TIC program.
Shortly after his move to Hancock, Rick became involved as a volunteer for the FUDR/Canfield fly fishing camp for two week-long sessions during the summer. Spending time on the water fishing and sharing conservation practices with the next generation of young anglers is rewarding and fun.
Being with a student when they catch their first trout? Priceless.
